Formats and Tools

Using a CAT (Computer Aided Translation) tool is one way to maintain consistency throughout the entire project. It also makes it possible to store a translation of whole sentences in a Translation Memory and to reuse the translation of similar texts in updates and new documents. Translation Memories are not only an easy way to work faster – they also make it possible for multiple translators to work on same project at the same time, ensuring that your desired style and terminology are followed.

Just to make it absolutely clear: A translation/localization done with a CAT tool is NOT a machine translation! Every word and sentence will at some point be translated and reviewed by one of our translators.

The following figure illustrates the translation process:

Translation Management

In which format do we deliver texts?

Your text can be delivered in many different formats, including, but not limited to:

  • Word formats (.doc/.docx)
  • Excel formats (.xls / .xlsx)
  • PowerPoint formats (.ppt / .pptx)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • HTML and XML formats
  • FrameMaker and InDesign formats
  • Open Office formats
  • Adobe InDesign (.indd)
  • Normal text format (.txt /.rc)

Most CAT tools support these formats, and we will help you convert other formats, allowing you to take advantage of the benefits of having your translations stored in a central Translation Memory.

The translation memory is your property and will be delivered to you upon completion of the project.
